Daytime Running Light Issues
DRL (Daytime Running Lights) are a new feature on most newer vehicles. When your headlights are off (or in auto if you have that feature) the DRL option will turn the low or high beams on but at a low output. The DRL module (built inside the vehicle) can either pulse the voltage to the lights to create a low percentage of output of just output at a low voltage.
Both of these can cause HID issues since HID ballasts will only run on a stable 12v or 24v system (depending on your vehicle setup). DRL modules can do the following: Pulse the positive connection around 10Hz Pulse the negative connection around 10Hz Supply a low positive voltage under 9v Halogen bulbs light up dimmer, while HID ballasts do not have the option to dim so they will turn off then back on at a rapid interval. |
